Beijing - Day 2

Kris and I walked to The Forbidden City. Wow! 980 bldgs and 8886 bays of rooms for the Emperor and his household (big household!). It was burned down, then rebuilt in 1406 in the exact center of Beijing. It took 14 years and 1 mil workers.
Yes, Mao is still revered!

The more animals on roof the more important the building.

Courtyard Art:
Bronze crane and tortoise symbolize luck and longevity.

Courtyard art:

The most holy rock of all.

Then on to Tienanmen Square. We should have come here first. The building that housed Mao's body was closed at noon. The square was pretty empty, but the statues were impressive.

We then went to the silk market, now in a 6-story bldg. Items were over-priced and you were expected to bargain for lower prices. I don't enjoy that, so I didn't buy anything. We did have a 30-min foot massage though, and I did enjoy that!
We went to an acrobatic show that evening, but I'll put it in another blog. This one's getting pretty long!
